Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg

Many children and youth in Canada struggle with societal barriers and face adversities in their lives. Poverty, gendered violence, discrimination, intergenerational trauma are risk factors for mental health, school issues and identity challenges. Prolonged adverse childhood experiences and toxic levels of stress are barriers to the health and welfare of individuals, communities and society. But with the support of a mentor, adversities can be overcome, barriers challenged; youth can develop their potential, find their own unique ways to be who they want to be, and contribute to a better world. Mentoring is a proven solution. We are thrilled to be a part of One Great Lottery. We recognize that our collective impact is far greater than the sum of individual efforts. By fostering collaboration, mutual support, and a shared commitment to collective well-being, we unlock boundless possibilities for positive change in our communities.

Shakespeare in the Ruins

For more than 30 years, Shakespeare in the Ruins (SIR) has been one of Winnipeg’s most cherished cultural treasures — the only theatre company in the city dedicated to bringing classical works to life in conversation with the world we live in today. Each spring, audiences gather in the heart of St. Norbert Provincial Heritage Park, retreating from the noise of the city to experience stories told beneath the open prairie sky, within the haunting beauty of a ruined Trappist Monastery. This summer tradition is more than a performance; it is an immersive, electrifying, and restorative experience for the senses — a place where community meets artistry, and nature becomes part of the play. Our audiences are loyal, passionate, and growing, with many returning year after year to share this magic with friends and family.
